Text presets

A preset gives a text clip a finished look with one click: its font, size, alignment, backdrop and position, sized to fit your canvas.

Where
Clip tab ▸ Text ▸ Presets
Agent tools
set_textset_video
  1. Select one or more text clips.

  2. Open the Presets section at the bottom of the Text sub-tab. It starts closed.

  3. Click Title, Subtitle, Lower Third or Caption.

It’s one undo step, named after the preset.

Preset Font Size At 1920 × 1080 Align Position Backdrop
Title Source Sans 3 Bold 9 % 97 px Centre Centre of the canvas None
Subtitle Source Sans 3 SemiBold 5 % 54 px Centre 18 % of the height below centre None
Lower Third Source Sans 3 SemiBold 4.5 % 49 px Left 20 % of the width left of centre, 28 % of the height below it Black at 55 %, padding 18 px, radius 6 px
Caption Source Sans 3 Regular 3.5 % 38 px Centre 38 % of the height below centre Black at 60 %, padding 12 px, radius 8 px

The position is where the centre of the text’s box sits, so a longer name on a Lower Third grows both ways from that point.

Title isn’t the look a new text clip starts with. That has the same font at a fixed 72 px, where Title works its size out from the canvas.

On a canvas taller than wide, Caption sits higher, a quarter of the height below centre, clear of a phone’s on-screen controls.

Subtitles from File ▸ Generate Captions… and File ▸ Import Captions… use the Caption look, and they also wrap at 80 % of the canvas width. The Caption button itself leaves the box as it is.

Sizes are a share of the canvas’s shorter side, and positions a share of its width and height. So a preset fits any canvas, and a vertical 1080 × 1920 canvas gets the same text height as a 1920 × 1080 one. A backdrop’s padding and radius stay at the pixel values in the table.

The size is worked out once, from the canvas at the moment you click. Changing the canvas afterwards doesn’t apply the preset again.

As well as the settings in the table, a preset sets Vertical to middle and Opacity back to 100 %. Title and Subtitle take away any backdrop.

It leaves everything else alone, including the words, the colour, the outline, tracking, line spacing, UPPERCASE, the box, the reveal, scale and rotation.

With an action selected, a preset sets that action’s end, like any other field.

There’s no preset tool. An agent sends the same values through set_text and set_video. See Tools: text, shapes and clip names.
