Updates

The copy of Frame Job you download keeps itself up to date. It tells you when a new version is ready and installs it when you say so.

The copy downloaded from the project's GitHub Releases page.

The copy you download from the project’s GitHub Releases page updates itself, with Sparkle. A copy built from source has no updater: it has no menu item and it never checks.

An update is always the whole app. Release notes are on the release’s page on GitHub.

Choose Frame Job ▸ Check for Updates…, directly under About Frame Job. It has no shortcut.

If a newer Frame Job has been published, a window shows its version. Choose Install Update to download it, then Install and Relaunch to replace the app and relaunch it. If there’s nothing newer, it says you’re up to date, and its Version History button opens the release’s page.

The item is greyed while a check is already running. No agent tool checks for updates or installs them.

The second time you open Frame Job, it asks whether to check for updates automatically. If you agree, it checks about once a day while it’s open and tells you when an update is ready. It installs one only when you say so, unless you tick Automatically download and install updates in that prompt, or the matching box in the update window.

Frame Job remembers your answer and when it last checked.

There’s no Settings control for this. With Frame Job closed, run this in Terminal:

Terminal window
defaults write com.kgalligan.FrameJob SUEnableAutomaticChecks -bool NO

Check for Updates… still works afterwards.

Every update carries an EdDSA signature, and Frame Job won’t install one whose signature doesn’t match the key built into the app. Only a release published from the project itself can be installed.
