Assistant privacy
The Assistant works by sending your conversation to Anthropic, so it’s worth knowing what that includes. Frame Job has no account or relay of its own: what you send goes to Anthropic under your own key, and nowhere else.

- An Anthropic API key. See Set up the Assistant.
What goes to Anthropic
Section titled “What goes to Anthropic”When you use the Assistant, these go to Anthropic under your key:
- Your messages, and a short block in front of each one: the project’s name and path, the open nest, the playhead and the selection.
- What the tools send back: the project’s details as JSON, including media file paths, any clip transcripts it reads, the reason when something couldn’t be done, and other results.
- The frames it renders to look at the picture.
What it costs is billed to your key. See What it costs.
Your key is handed straight to the helper, the small program Frame Job runs to talk to Anthropic. It isn’t placed on a command line or in the helper’s environment.
When a conversation starts, the helper also asks Anthropic for the model’s context window, under your key. That request names only the model.
The Assistant asks before it exports a movie, captions or a graphic, saves a project, consolidates media or writes a file to a path it chose. Temporary renders and files in the project’s graphics folder are written without asking.
No audio to the cloud transcriber
Section titled “No audio to the cloud transcriber”Audio never goes to the cloud transcriber from the Assistant. Cloud transcription is withheld, so uploading audio stays your choice, in File ▸ Generate Captions… or Clip ▸ Remove Filler Words….
The price table download
Section titled “The price table download”Once a day at most, the helper downloads LiteLLM’s public price table from GitHub. That request carries no key and no project data. See Prices refreshed daily.
What stays on your Mac
Section titled “What stays on your Mac”Everything else stays on your Mac. The Assistant keeps these files in ~/Library/Application Support/Frame Job/:
| File | What it is |
|---|---|
anthropic-key |
Your key, in a file only you can read. |
spend.jsonl |
The spend ledger. It holds token counts and dollars, never your key or the conversation’s content. |
anthropic-prices.json |
The cached price table. |
The conversation lives in memory
Section titled “The conversation lives in memory”The conversation is kept in memory only, and goes when you clear it or close the window. Nothing of it is saved in the project or in the spend ledger.
