Image clips
An image clip puts a still picture on the timeline: a logo, a photo, a screenshot. It draws like a video clip but has no length of its own, so you decide how long it stays.

Place an image
Section titled “Place an image”-
Import the picture the way you’d import a movie, with File ▸ Add Media… or by dropping it on the Media tab.
-
Drag its row onto a track, or onto the preview canvas.
The picture lands as a five-second clip. A drop on a track puts it at the pointer, and a drop on the canvas puts it at the playhead on a new track in front. See Add clips to the timeline for what stops a drop, and Insert and overwrite to make room for it.
The picture formats Frame Job can read, and how each one comes in, are on Supported file formats.
Length
Section titled “Length”An image clip starts at 5 seconds. A picture has no end to run out of, so you can trim it to any length, down to one frame. Drag either edge on the timeline, or type a time into In or Out in the Timing section of the Clip sub-tab.
There’s no footage to retime or turn around, so the Clip sub-tab has no Speed section and Timing has no Reverse row.
Starting size
Section titled “Starting size”A picture bigger than the canvas on either side starts scaled down so all of it shows, while the Document tab’s Fit new clips to canvas option is on, which it is by default. With the option off it starts at 100 %, its native size, and runs past the edges of the canvas.
A picture the same size as the canvas or smaller starts at 100 % either way, because the option never scales a clip up. See Fit new clips to canvas.
Picture sections
Section titled “Picture sections”An image clip has three sub-tabs: Picture, Color and Clip. There’s no Sound sub-tab, because a picture has no sound.
The Picture sub-tab has these sections, in this order:
- Transform
- Behind Subject, on the top-level timeline only, so not while a nest is open
- Hide While Silent
- Crop
- Corner Radius
- Chroma Key
- Background, which is Remove Background
- Shadow
- Filters
- Reflection
- Spotlight
- Obscure
That’s everything a video clip has but two. The Layout section is for a clip of a video file and the Cursor section for a screen recording, so neither shows here.
Remove Background works on a picture too, keeping its person or its foreground subject. A picture gets a Subject row to choose between them. See Remove Background.
The Color sub-tab grades a picture as it grades a movie, with Light, Color, Wheels, Curves and Look.
The Clip sub-tab has Timing and Motion presets, plus Transition when the clip overlaps the one before it. To give a still some movement, use a motion preset or an action.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- An animated GIF or WebP shows its first frame only.
- A picture with transparency keeps it, so what’s behind shows through. That’s how to add a sticker or a watermark. Frame Job has no sticker library, so bring your own PNG.
- A picture more than 8,192 px on its long side is read at 8,192 px.
- Opening a PNG, JPEG or HEIC picture with File ▸ Open… builds a new project around it instead of adding it to the one you have open. See Open a project.
With an agent
Section titled “With an agent”import_media adds the picture to the media list and add_clip places it, five seconds long at the size above. See Tools: media and Tools: adding clips.
